OPTICLEAR XL IPL

Manufacturer: APOLO
Product code: DEOPTIXL
Advanced IPL Treatment for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)
OptiClear XL is an intense pulsed light (IPL) system used for the treatment of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) associated with evaporative dry eye disease.

The system uses safe and effective, clinically established IPL technology to provide, long-term treatment potential, with no disposables and a 60-month warranty for the complete system.

OptiClear XL uses a xenon flash lamp delivering light in the 420–1200nm spectrum. The IPL light energy is absorbed by blood vessels associated with inflammation, causing coagulation and closure of abnormal vessels.
Treatment also generates controlled heat within the skin and Meibomian glands, helping to warm gland secretions, dilate gland ducts and facilitate gland expression.

Supporting Dry Eye management
In evaporative dry eye disease, the Meibomian glands do not function correctly, resulting in poor tear film stability and increased tear evaporation. This may occur due to gland inflammation, infection or blockage of the gland ducts.

IPL treatment for MGD has been shown to:

-
Destroy abnormal blood vessels associated with inflammation
-
Reduce pro-inflammatory mediators
-
Improve tear film osmolarity
-
Restore the morphology and functionality of the Meibomian glands
-
Reduce Demodex mites associated with MGD

Ergonomic handset design
The compact ergonomic applicator is designed to provide excellent visibility of the treatment area while supporting comfortable handling during treatment. The 4.2cm² spot size enables fast and precise coverage with minimal overlap.
Advanced cooling technology
OptiClear XL incorporates:
-
Water cooling
-
Forced-air cooling
-
Semiconductor local cooling

The cooled sapphire tip helps protect the skin during treatment, minimising superficial thermal irritation and improving patient comfort. The handpiece cooling temperature is less than 4°C.
Treatment protocol
Treatment is performed from tragus to tragus and across the sides of the nose, close to the lower eyelid, with mild pulse overlap and a double-pass technique.

A typical treatment uses approximately 100 pulses depending on head width.

Following IPL treatment, Meibomian gland expression may be performed immediately to assist removal of gland contents.

Treatment protocols typically involve a minimum of four sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, with follow-up treatment after one year or earlier if required.
No disposables
OptiClear XL operates without disposables, helping to minimise ongoing treatment costs for practices.

The exchangeable handpiece is rated for approximately 1,000,000 pulses.
