Cardiff Contrast Sensitivity Test

The Cardiff Contrast Sensitivity Test uses the same vanishing optotypes as the Cardiff Acuity Tests to measure contrast sensitivity by preferential looking, or by naming the picture seen. It is suitable for use from around 12 months to adult.

The picture targets are drawn with dark and light bands on a neutral grey background. When the person’s contrast sensitivity level is reached the target merges with the grey background and becomes invisible.

There are three cards at each contrast level from 46% to 1% in twelve stages. The testing distance is 1 metre or less.
